Dawn Brizendine, DVM, Fear Free Certified

Veterinarian

Dr. Brizendine, originally from Michigan grew up in a suburb of Detroit, rescuing every critter that came her way. Her love of science and animals melded perfectly into a desire to become a veterinarian. Volunteering at a local veterinary clinic solidified the desire, knowing there were many hours of “grunt” work ahead. Veterinary medicine is not always glamorous! She got her Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University in Zoology, with a concentration in Neurobiology.

Veterinary school at the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine followed. The intent was to go into wildlife medicine but plans changed upon meeting her future husband, and small animal medicine became her focus. Upon graduation, Dr. Brizendine and her new husband moved to rural Indiana and she began practicing. After only one short year in Indiana, they moved to Colorado Springs, where the mountains called and it is definitely “home”. She is a fur mom to two dogs that found her through a rescue and the Humane Society, and two cats that also found their way into her life as well. She enjoys horseback riding, though her 18-year-old thoroughbred cross is now retired due to lameness issues and living out his days happy at pasture. She also volunteers at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo as a tour docent. When not working or volunteering, Dr. Brizendine enjoys the beautiful Colorado scenery with her family.

“I am proud to say that I have been helping animals in Veterinary field for 20+ years, doing my small part to be an advocate for our furry friends that may otherwise have no voice. My job is to strengthen and promote your bond with your animal friend and hopefully make that relationship as long and as healthy as possible! What I am even more proud to say is that I’ve grown to understand that I actually help people, sometimes more than animals themselves. Thank you for inviting me to your bond!”
