Fun Ways to Pamper Your Pet for National Pet Day

Did you know that April 11th was National Pet Day? While we think our animal companions should be celebrated every day, this is a great time to show your furry friend some extra TLC. Below, a Colorado Springs, CO vet offers some great ideas on how to make this day extra special for your four-legged BFF.

New Bed

Is your furry pal’s bed getting worn down? Our four-legged friends certainly spend a lot of time sleeping, so a new bed is a great gift. If you’re low on funds, you can always make your furbaby’s new bed. Just fold up a blanket or comforter, and put it in a box or a large wicker basket. Or, upcycle an old sweater by putting stuffing in the sleeves and sewing it into a bed shape. Look online for more DIY pet bed ideas.

There are few better ways to brighten up your pet’s day than to bring a new toy home. Fido may enjoy a rope toy, while Fluffy can never have too many catnip mice. Take some time to play with your furry friend, too. You’ll be rewarded with tail wags and/or purrs!

This is a great time to get some really great shots of your pet. Try shooting from floor level, so you’re face-to-face with your furry pal.

Fido is a fairly opportunistic eater, and would be happy with almost anything you put in front of him. As a responsible pet owner, it’s up to you to choose healthy, dog-safe treats for your canine buddy. Plain, cooked meat without the bone; a bit of deli meat; or some roast beef are a few good options. As for Fluffy, she may enjoy some canned tuna, salmon, or chicken.

Veterinary Care

We know that Fluffy and Fido would probably veto this option if they could, but proper veterinary care is very important! If your furkid is overdue for veterinary care, make an appointment today!

Quality Time

At the end of the day, your devoted pet wants nothing more than to spend time with you. Settle in with a good book or movie and your furry companion. What a great way to wind down after a long day!
